Kashmir state, India. His name Pangong lake, or better known as Pangong Tso.
Tso means lake in Ladakhi language. Pangong lake into the list of one of the
highest lakes in the world.
The lake is located in the highlands of the Himalayas,
exactly on the border of two countries, India and Tibet-China. The lake is
quite wide, stretches along 83 miles by 3.1 miles wide. Nearly sixty percent of
the lake belongs to China. Pangong Lake Located at an altitude of 4.350 m (14.270
ft ) All together it covers 604 km2. During the winter the lake freezes
completely. Above sea level and natural conditions are so challenging, Pangong Lake make the dream of all tourists that venture into Ladakh.
Pangong lake which makes it unique is because it is
categorized as a type endorheic lake or also commonly called a salt lake.
Endorheic is a lake that does not lead to death and disgorge, the lake has no
water flow to the outside If we usually probably already accustomed to seeing
the lake which has a network of rivers that drain the lake flow into the
lowlands or even to the sea, but pangong lake did not like it. Lake locked
position between the mountains and away from the ocean. The main source of
water contained in Pangong lake of pure spring water, water from rain or
melting snow melt in the vicinity. In addition to Pangong Tso, in the Ladakh
region of the lake there are also others, namely Moriri Lake and Kar Lake. But
the most famous is Pangong Tso, especially after the setting the film locations.
Pangong Lake is in disputed territory. The Line of Actual
Control passes through the lake. A section of the lake approximately 20 km east
from the Line of Actual Control is controlled by China but claimed by India.
The eastern end of the lake is in Tibet. After the mid-19th century, Pangong Lake was at the southern end of the so-called Johnson Line, an early attempt at
demarcation between India and China in the Aksai Chin region.
The Khurnak Fort lies on the northern bank of the lake,
halfway of Pangong Lake. The Chinese has controlled the Khurnak Fort area since
1952. To the south is the smaller Spanggur lake.On October 20, 1962,
Pangong Lake saw military action during the Sino-Indian War, successful for the
Communist People's Liberation Army .Pangong Lake is still a delicate border
point along the Line of Actual Control.
Incursions from the Chinese side are common.
To visit Pangong Lake, guests are required to
take care of a special permit, the permit can be taken care of through a travel
agency in Leh which will cost you extra. But usually for tour participants,
pengurusanya costs already included in the package tour pretty submit
photocopies of passport only on the agent. Departing using jeeps, six in the
morning we were leaving the town of Leh, which became the capital of Ladakh.
The journey from Leh to Pangong Tso took about five hours. This is one of the
most fantastic I've ever passed. It seems the Indian government is quite
concerned with the condition of the country's infrastructure.
